Surroundings

The easily-accessible private vacation home is secluded and quiet. Nestled on the shore in Shelter Bay, the wooded property has 170 feet of private lake frontage in the Hiawatha National Forest, and a beautiful panoramic view of Lake Superior and Au Train Island. You can enjoy your vacation relaxing and unwinding in the peaceful, quiet setting. Just sit back on the porch with a good book, listen to the waves, and let time pass by. You can also feed and watch the many species of birds that come to the feeders near the cottage. In the winter, snowmobilers can be assured of continuous snowfall amounts due to "lake affect" conditions and often have fresh powder to head out to the trails on.

Nearby water recreation includes swimming, snorkeling, trophy fishing, water skiing, and canoeing. Other nearby recreation includes golf, tennis, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, snowmobiling, downhill and cross-country skiing, and hunting.

Shelter Bay offers Lake Superior charter fishing service within walking distance. Just a ½ mile from the cottage is Deer Lake, a beautiful inland lake with excellent swimming and picnic facilities. Au Train, 6 miles east, features one of the most beautiful white-sand beaches on the south shore of Lake Superior and is a favorite swimming spot.

The Rock River Canyon Wilderness Area is just south of Shelter Bay and awaits the hiking and biking enthusiasts. Nearby you can find waterfalls, Grand Island Recreation Area, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Seney Wildlife Refuge, U.S. Forest Service Songbird Trail, and the Alger Underwater Preserve.
