Astor is in north-central Florida, in Lake County.
 | Astor lies nestled among the trees of the Ocala National
Forest and is bordered by the St. Johns River on the east. The Astor area is
home to approximately 1500 residents who like boating, fishing, hunting and
nature at its finest. Most of the businesses are family owned and operated.
It is a quaint little town of friendly and accommodating people. |
 | Astor is located on State Rd. 40, 35 miles west of Ormond Beach and about 35 miles east of Ocala. |
 | Just a few miles north of Astor you will find Lake George,
the second largest fresh water lake in Florida, and just south of Astor is
Lake Dexter and Lake Woodruff. |
 | Astor has much history. It was named after the famous Astor
family who were early settlers of the area and had the first hotel in the
area. |
 | Wildlife is abundant. Often seen are egrets, heron, eagles, wild turkey,
deer, wild boar, otters and black bears. Astor is on the outskirts of the
Ocala National Forest which protects all the wildlife in the area. It is not
uncommon to see alligators along the shores of the St. Johns and during the
summer months manatees are often seen as well. There is fine dining as well
as "down-home" casual in the area. |
 | Astor has a public boat launching facility which is easy access and free
for public use. |
