Breckenridge is in the west-central part of Colorado, just west of the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains. Breckenridge is in Summit County.


Breckenridge has a population of about 1,000, and it at an elevation of about 9,600 feet.


It is one of Colorado's oldest continuously occupied mining towns. Many of the original Victorian buildings in the downtown area house many fine shops.


Breckenridge is surrounded by the Arapaho National Forest.


The town has the Breckenridge Ski Area, one of the country's finest ski areas. Nearby cross-country skiing lessons and back-country tours are available.
